Launched at the London Design Festival earlier this year, the Sola collection features tables, mirrors and lighting, each piece hand finished by the designer in his Sheffield studio.

Planes of black walnut are inlaid with crescents of brushed brass to create flush, yet contrasting tabletops. A Lightweight brass framework supports the console and the side table, while a larger coffee table stands on three turned walnut legs.

The Sola wall light is engineered from laminated veneers of walnut, which carefully bend away in the centre creating a narrow slit from which light spills across the satined wood surface.

Completing the collection, the mirror features three circles of glass, tinted with bronze, blue and grey hues, their arrangement and colours representative of the Sun, Earth and Moon, and their positions within the universe.

Dexter, who established his brand M Dex in 2011, combines traditional crafting skills with modern techniques – the brass inlays are precision cut using a fibre optic laser cutter, while the lamination process for the lamp is undertaken by hand.
